Music Video Preservation Society on November 20th: Julien Temple, Academy Films, PTA and Diane Martel

Promonews - 13th Nov 2025

Music Video Preservation Society returns to the Prince Charles Cinema in London's West End in a week's time, on Thursday 20th November at 8.30pm, with another night of amazing music videos on the big screen, featuring a very special guest - the one and only Julien Temple.

Julien is one of the greats of British film, let alone British music videos, the maker of numerous acclaimed feature films and documentaries. His relationship with music video all started with a promo within a movie - one that still has the power to shock even today: Sid Vicious performing My Way in his first movie, The Great Rock ’n’ Roll Swindle.

From that point, he went on to make videos for many major artists and helped define the new medium in the 1980s. Then he directed his remarkable musical blockbuster Absolute Beginners. Julien will be recalling his adventures in music videos with MVPS host and Promonews editor David Knight in his first appearance on stage at the Prince Charles.

In a packed show, MVPS will also throw a spotlight on a great British production company on the occasion of its 40th birthday: Academy Films. Behind music videos from the likes of Walter Stern, Us, Kim Gehrig and Jonathan Glazer - including Jamiroquai’s Virtual Insanity, featured on the cover of SHORT FORM, the beautiful new book celebrating Academy’s 40th (below) - MVPS will be screening a selection of Academy classics next Thursday.

MVPS be also be investigating the music video output of one of the world's great directors: Paul Thomas Anderson. And paying tribute to hugely influential American director Diane Martel, who passed away recently and was celebrated at the UK Music Video Awards 2025 in October. The show will also include a big winner from this year's UKMVAs.

In fact, music videos from every decade from the 1970s to the 2020s will be given some big screen love at Music Video Preservation Society at The Prince Charles Cinema in central London, from 8.30pm on Thursday, November 20th.

Grab your ticket at the PCC website while they’re still available from the Prince Charles Cinema website.
