1995’s Polar Rapid by Michael Humphrey
David Knight - 28th Apr 2010
Made for about 100$NZ, Michael Humphrey's video for 1995's Polar Rapid has the benefit of a great simple idea - and makes the most of the band's interesting-looking friends. It's all about watching people watching something else - something unexpected.
"I wanted to have a shot at an idea that had been floating around in my head for some time," says Michael. "I really wanted to create a connection between an audience and the emotions and reactions of non-actors reacting to footage shown to them.
"The subjects were shot one by one with each not having any idea what was about to happen. We played a series of videos to the subjects - content ranging from dogs being silly, to shocking and disgusting. There was one 'special' video that came last... not everyone got to see that one."
That one is about the most hideous thing you might ever see on the lovely internet, so we won't spoil your life by telling you what it is (if you haven't had your life spoiled already). Better off watching people watching the hideous video...
