The Hoosiers' Bumpy Ride by Craig Young
Jimmy Brown - 6th Apr 2011
Shot over a period of seven days on a 2000 mile road trip across America, Craig Young's promo for Bumpy Ride by The Hooisers marks a distinct break from their usual fare of high art-directed promos by putting the band in a more natural environment.
After meeting in December of 2010, Young chose to take the band Stateside and photograph the action himself whilst on the road in a 30 foot RV. Things start out Hangover-style in Las Vegas, but then take several surreal turns on the road to Texas in the full epic, eight-minute version.
"It was a really interesting way of making a promo actually," explains Young. "Grant (Cummings, Producer) and I took the budget and put a camera on our shoulder and just searched for anything that screamed 'Americana'. Then we either lip-synced, wrote dialogue for a story that didn't really ever exist, or just screwed around until we had to move on.
"The boys were very cool, and as such it was important for me that they remained able to laugh at themselves and have some fun on camera, whilst alluding to the idea that this was a video that got out of control very quickly."
Several acoustic videos were also shot whilst in the US, all of which are being released on a DVD with their new album next week.
