Michael Kiwanuka 'I'm Getting Ready' by Vincent Haycock (Director's Cut)
Jimmy Brown - 6th Mar 2012
Following a major bust-up, a distraught girl in the depths of despair seeks help and refuge in a cafe but is systematically ignored by the diners. Haycock massively contrasts this with footage from a church with 'believers' lost in their faith...
"I wanted this video to be a brief meditation on the mundane turned extraordinary - a really simple video for a short poignant song," Vincent explains. "Michael's lyrics reminded me of a fascination I've always had about observing scenes in passing through the safety of your car. Quick glimpses into other peoples lives that are usually absurd, the stuff you can't make up and I always wish I knew what happened just before or after the moment I witnessed.
"This video is an attempt to dive into something I've seen in the past. A hispanic Pentecostal church next-door to a woman breaking down in a restaurant, both moments vastly different but connected by Michael and just two feet of cinderblock."
