Goldfrapp 'Annabel' by Lisa Gunning
David Knight - 4th Sept 2013
Following the sensual Drew, the second film directed by Lisa Gunning for Goldfrapp's new album Tales Of Us, for Annabel (now on Nowness), takes us back to that sun-kissed country estate, apparently frozen in time, where the focus is another character: a solitary young boy, who perhaps would prefer to be a girl...
The boy explores his feminine side, through trinkets and clothes he finds. But its the sense of place, atmosphere and the season which is, once again, so central to the mood of the piece.Â
The track (each one on the album is named after a person) was inspired by Kathleen Winter's 2010 novel about a hermaphrodite child growing up in a remote Canadian town in the 60s.Â
