Joe Connor ponders the concept of 'being in love' in his video for The Courteeners' Are You In Love With A Notion.

"This concept of the video came from conversations with Liam, the lead singer of the Courteeners.  Having now done all the videos for this album and mainly concentrating on the band in those previous videos, we both spoke about doing a narrative video based on the subject of the lyrics.  ‘Why are you so in love with a notion?’ is a very interesting starting point for a video and Liam sent over a few thoughts that I took as my inspiration.  

"People fall in love all the time for all sorts of reasons and I wanted to explore that shade of grey between being in love with a person or with the concept of love - this translated into a sequence of scenarios and images that reflect this idea without ever delivering a concrete answer - there is no answer to love, there are only events and consequences as shown by the repetition of the first meeting in the chorus. 

"We shot on 16mm with two great local Manchester actors and then topped it all off with a great performance from Liam that harks back to the Madchester videos of the early 90’s.  It’s such a joy to shoot 16mm now a days and Davey Gilder did a great job with it".
