Speed Of Snakes 'Backbone Of Night' by Stevie Russell
David Knight - 16th Sept 2014
Stevie Russell's video for Speed Of Snakes' Backbone Of Night - the new band comprised of Rupert Morris (BATS) and Vin McCreith (Adebisi Shank) – depicts a future Dublin where a beautiful female robot (Teodora Sutra) is programmed for prostitution. But then she acquires human consciousness - and seeks revenge upon her abusers...Â
It's an ambitious and compelling mini sci-fi thriller by Stevie Russell - and look out for a cameo by an important character from Stevie's MVA-winning video for Kodaline's All I Want.
STEVIE RUSSELL:
"Myself and Rupert (from the band) grew up together making little films in our bedrooms (ahem) and watching sci-fi classics of the 80/90’s religiously. This was sort of our love letter to that era and those films.
"It’s a tricky line between cheesy and cool that we tried to skate along to give it that grungy sci-fi feel. We had a really tight budget (€5k) but had a mega crew and the producers, Mike and Jason, did an amazing job of pulling everything and everyone together. Teodora Sutra plays the lead. She had never done stunt work before, but totally nailed the Robotic rigid feel of the fight at the end.
"I love stories about Robots becoming sentient and I reckon sex bots will be the first to say 'F**k this'
"See if you can spot the little cameo from my dog Digby (He was the dog from the Kodline ‘All I want’ video). He is available for castings and a dream to work with."
