The Bug 'Function/Void' by Factory Fifteen

David Knight - 1st Oct 2014

Directing team Factory Fifteen and production company Nexus have created an epic VFX-driven interpretation of a futuristic dystopian world for Ninja Tune artist The Bug, in conjunction with VICE and Intel's platform The Creators Project.

The London-based collective have made the film for two tracks from The Bug's new album Angels & Devils - Function and Void – fashioning a high-tech version of the classic story of state oppression and individual fight for freedom.

The narrative follows the life of a human drone, medicated to think, feel and function, and as he becomes aware of his state, the impact on the world around him when he stops conforming. The fundamental weakness of totalitarianism is exposed and the fabric of the city crumbles spectacularly around our hero...

“We wanted to reflect The Bug's thematic ideas and visually explore the narrative of a person stuck in a totalitarian system, using themes from our current society of consumerist lifestyles." Factory Fifteen explain. "The whole process was critically engaging and allowed us to truly build a world ...and then tear it down.”
