Brodinski ft SD 'Can't Help Myself' by Megaforce
David Knight - 24th Nov 2014
Megaforce's video for Brodinski ft SD's Can't Help Myself instantly draws you in with its deeply cinematic opening of a near-naked late middle-aged man walking through a deserted sub-city road tunnel. It's a hell of an opening shot as the camera speeds towards him. And in the French directing quartet's first video since the string of mighty vids, for Dizzee Rascal, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Is Tropical, that led them to win best director at last year's UKMVAs, the pace never slackens.Â
But from the moment the man goes through a transformative process (as he smokes, drinks and eyes some diamond rings on his TV) that turns him into a younger man – who then heads for the same tunnel – we are invited to ponder what appears to be the premise: if you had the chance to go back, and do it all over again, would you do better - or would just repeat the same mistakes?Â
