Jimmy Napes 'Give It Up' by Luke Monaghan
David Knight - 21st Jan 2015
Luke Monaghan takes the subject matter of Rudimental and Sam Smith collaborator Jimmy Napes' solo effort Give It Up as his jumping-off point for a story of a young man in Las Vegas, where his addictive pursuits come at an increasingly heavy price. Â
Like in Monaghan's excellent video for Sam Smith's I'm Not The Only One last year, this is the study of the main character's drift into a hell of their own making. In his case, there is the hint he may have a shot at redemption.     Â
LUKE MONAGHAN:
"We shot most of the video in a small town just outside Vegas, did some pick-up's in actual Las Vegas and LA as well. It was a proper team effort, not a great deal of money, and we had a lot of locations to cover. Ben Kitchens did a great job with the cinematography, it's mostly natural and available light. We've worked that way a few times before together and he did a great job on my short film 'Baby Gangster' and a HBO documentary I'm working on.
"Jimmy let me be free and wanted to not feature. I've known him for a while so it was relaxed process going into it, he's a talented lad having co-wrote most of Disclosure and Sam Smith's stuff, so it's a pleasure to be making his first solo video."
