Jean Michel Jarre & M83 'Glory' by Lisa Paclet
Cat Velez - 29th June 2015
Lisa Paclet has created this slightly sardonic take on the concept of Glory for the track by the same name by French electronic pioneer Jean Michel Jarre's team-up with M83.Â
It sets up a sort of futuristic athletics tournament, with useless action taking place in a series of absurd sports, performed by athletes that run after unreachable, constantly shifting goals. Their performances are scrutinized by a uniform, stoic public, who's reaction to their efforts is synchronized and coordinated like a well-oiled machine.
But as the clip progresses the athletes subtly rebel against their pointless tasks, breaking the repetitive cycle to which they are constrained. And that sets off a chain reaction that triggers a less somnambulant response from the audience.
