Banners 'Shine A Light' by Chris Ranson - now signed to Crossfire

Cat Velez - 15th Oct 2015

Chris Ranson's video for Banners' Shine A Light is the follow-up to his video for the artist's Ghosts, with a dramatic narrative starting on the image of a motorcycle crash, and the young male lead injured in the accident. Then he recovers only to confront the chilling scene of his girlfriend being kidnapped by gangsters.

Our hero steps in to save the day, setting off a cat-and-mouse chase scene, that resolves itself in an abandoned building...

Chris, who started is career as an editor, working in Soho on videos and commercials, has gone on to direct videos for artists including Jon Hopkins, Scorcher and Thomas Jack, and he has now joined Crossfire Productions for music videos and commercials. He's represented for music videos by Chloe Page at Lock It In.

CHRIS RANSON:

"The idea was to come up with a series of videos that were narratively linked but also work on their own. Mike (aka Banners) and I had several chats about the concept for the videos and we decided to set it in the Cotswolds, as Mike wanted a very English feel to the videos and I had contacts there.

"I found Jonjo (male lead) literally the night before we were shooting. I saw another music video he'd been in and thought he would be perfect for the role. During the shoot he was fantastic, he took direction really well and threw himself into everything. His performance is outstanding and I’m looking forward to working with him again. Similarly, Hanako (female lead) who I’d worked with before was just as good. She trusted me a lot on this video and I was so grateful to her for that.

"A big thank you to Mike, Koz, Khlaed and everyone at Island Records NY for trusting me with these videos. Also Stefan (dop) and Lewis (colourist) who made it look great. The dream team."
