Breakbot '2GOOD4ME' by Simon Cahn

Cat Velez - 26th Jan 2016

Simon Cahn has transplanted Japanese kawaii culture into Mexico in this original video for French artist Breakbot's track 2GOOD4ME.

It captures the fast paced day-in-a-life of a young, defiant Lolita living in Tijuana, as she walks her brother to school, has a picnic with other Japanophiles, and heads to a club in the back of a lustful boy's truck. The video paints a portrait of present-day urban youth, and ends with a surreal flourish as the girl hovers over the city on her walk back home.

Upon the video's release, Cahn explained to Dazed: “The link between Mexican and Japanese culture is weirdly very strong in Mexico. It’s very unexpected and interesting…I decided to play with this Japanese/Mexican link. All the characters are real people from Tijuana and non-professional actors.

“The video, for me, is like the 24-hour rollercoaster of emotions of a young woman; travelling abruptly from comedy to anger, from joy to pain etc. Working with a non-classic narration, I wanted to embody all these different emotions with the structure of the video echoing the feelings of someone intoxicated."
