Frank Turner 'Mittens' by Ben Morse
Cat Velez - 15th Feb 2016
Ben Morse reveals the perils of showing one's feelings to the people we really like - and being a little bit too confident of the response, in this Anti-Valentine of a one-shot video for Frank Turner's MittensÂ
The folk-rock singer-songwriter himself embodies the idea by by getting on stage in a full Elvis getup, with a rose wedged between his teeth, only to suffer painful rejection by the object of his affection. Nothing quite says it like a left hook piledriver.
And you can send the video to someone in a similar boat to Frank-as-Elvis, by linking them to a website released along with the clip.
BEN MORSE:Â
"Frank came to me wanting to do an entirely slow motion video, and wanted to dress as Elvis. It was an odd idea, but in context with a song about taking risks and putting yourself out there in relationships, you show people what you think they want to see. And I suppose if you're an Elvis fan, he is the ultimate "best version" of a musician.
"But, it's a sad song, so it was important that it didn't work. Props to both performers for going for it. This was take six, the slaps were full on, and Frank's shins were butter by the end of it all. I liked the idea of wrapping it in a website that encouraged fans to take a risk too. Music videos are too passive. Entertainment should be interactive."
