Band of Skulls 'So Good' by Jack Lightfoot
Cat Velez - 16th May 2016
Jack Lightfoot has directed these hypnotic visuals for Band of Skulls' So Good, a hyper-stylish affair made up of repeated disco-inspired motifs - including a lady with a full Afro, disco mirrorballs, and birds of prey.
It's layered with cool, kaleidoscoped performance footage of the band, with neon shapes jumping forth from the middle of the screen matched to the pulsing beat.
JACK LIGHTFOOT:
"I got a real disco vibe from the track, and so I wanted to try and capture that within the aesthetic. That developed into the neo-noir colour scheme, with the deep purples, pinks and blues, to try and capture the cool-sexy side of disco, rather than anything cheesy.
"We had the same frame of mind with art department - giving a nod to disco with our cast, styling, and props, but very much keeping in tone with the band and track.
The VFX element was something I'd wanted to try for a while, and I felt the driving bass drum of the track created a hypnotic rhythm that really worked with the technique. I don't think I've looked at so many circles since Year 9 maths.”
