Frank Ocean 'Nikes' by Tyrone Lebon
Cat Velez - 9th Sept 2016
Tyrone Lebon has created this patchwork of visuals for Frank Ocean's new track Nikes, which sees an enterpretation of the song with snippets of footage in various degrees of filmic quality.Â
Including grainy handicam clips of casting calls, strippers and parties full of glitter, as well as more composed, considered imagery, the video stages conventional video tropes and then breaks the illusion by revealing their artifice through BTS clips.Â
Heavy on the neon-tinged nighttime atmospherics, it's a video to accompany an occasionally sparse, evocative track, culminating in a self-immolation sequence where Frank is set on fire...
"I interpreted the song as a stream of Frank’s consciousness - rich with snippets of stories, emotions and ideas," Lebon explains, "The visuals came immediately when I first heard the song - they all follow from the music and Frank’s lyrics."Â
