Patten 'Blade, Cache, Epsilon' live film by Greg Barnes
Luke Bather - 8th Dec 2016
Greg Barnes directs a three-track live film for artists Patten on Warp Records in part collaboration with Red Bull.
The 10 minute live film is a slick and colourful affair which is constantly in motion. Seamlessly mixing digital, video-tap, and 16mm film formats, and forever encircling the duo as they perform, the videos format-hopping, glitchy edits combine beautifully with the light show to create a dramatic-looking film.
Barnes's films bring in elements of Patten's live show, creating something impossible to reproduce live with the duo disappearing and reappearing to their own synthesised scratches. Blink and you'll miss some of the excellent edit work here.
