Kodaline 'Brother' by Stevie Russell
David Knight - 30th June 2017
The return of Kodaline also heralds the return of Stevie Russell, their regular music video collaborator, with a tale that might just be his most heart-rending work yet.
It starts in the darkest circumstances, at the funeral of a child. The focus is on another child, the younger brother of the recently deceased, who at first seems oblivious to the enormity of the situation.
What follows is a poignant supernatural tale. The older brother (and he's the spitting image of the younger one) comes back, for a night of play. And the viewer always knows, what the little boy cannot, that the magic and joy is temporary.
Concisely told - and this is edited by music video editing legend Tony Kearns - Russell's video is about the stages of grief, which must start when when you move on from the stage of denial.
