Skepta ft Nafe Smallz 'Greaze Mode' by Matthew Walker
Promonews - 6th June 2019
Matthew Walker's longtime collaboration with Skepta resumes with their most ambitious outing yet for Greaze Mode, from Skepta's new album Ignorance Is Bliss. It's a big bank job.
Skepta, decked out as a very superfly bank robber, never misses a line as he and accomplice Nafe Smallz breeze into a bank, armed and dangerous, and proceed to cause some havoc.
Matt Walker has channelled a bit of Tarantino as well as the 70s Blaxploitation-era with the well-choreographed mayhem, threat of violence, fastmoving action - and comedy - which quickly moves from the initial heist to the standoff with the police, and a hostage situation.
And the twist is that Skepta is less interested in the cash stored in the bank vaults, than a set of photos...Â
MATTHEW WALKER:
"The video was about us just having fun with the 70's Blaxploitation style of film making, while still keeping it in the 'music video' world. We decided that this should play like a film but should incorporate performances that weren't jarring and took us out of the narrative.
"As if by an act of God, there were so many lyrics that went with the "Bank Robbery" theme that it they worked well as 'dialogue' moments in the chosen scenes. We are all pretty gassed over how it turned out."
