Aella Jordan-Edge reworks the Cinderella fairytale in this triumphal visual for NUUXS, the story of a commercial cleaner who finds her own way to the ball.

Lucy Namgauds gives an emphatic performance as a girl who is well and truly over it. She’s on her way to a soul-destroying job, and to top it all off, she’s just realised her prince was not who she thought she was. Thankfully, NUUXS is here to make an intervention. In a fantasy sequence, the singer appears as a proto-fairy godmother, with some sisterly advice: “Get up and go / move on, you know / you got options baby”.

Even with naturalistic light and colour, DoP Donny Johnson and colourist Ruth Wardell find a way to lend the dullest of locations a celebratory quality. And this is compounded by a tension-building edit by Meg Thorne. There’s a subtle emotional power when NUUXS first appears with her rallying pep talk, interrupting reality in ethereal violet light. Jordan-Edge's visual gets right to the crux of the Cinders story.
