After scooping prestigious Cannes Lions this year for Viva La Vulva, her music video-like ad for Libresse, Kim Gehrig makes a rare return to music videos proper for Alabama Shakes' singer Brittney Howard's solo debut single, and celebrates everyday life courtesy of of one of Hollywood's most likeable everyday heroes, Terry Crews.

The redoubtable star of Everybody Hates Chris, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Expendables movie series, and more, plays a weary working man who clocks off at the factory, and makes his way home, via a trip to the supermarket - and all the while taking on lipsync duties on Howard's song Stay High. We find that this ordinary day in Athens, Alabama (Howard's hometown) starts to be sprinkled with a certain magic, as his fellow citizens, and aspects of the world start tuning in and contributing to Crew's performance.

The video is a really wonderfully subtle combination of realism and fantasy and the result is pure Gehrig. Like her This Girl Can ad for Sports England, the magic does come from a real place, and she offers the viewer the chance to see things and make a greater than usual, positive response of their own.

This is also as much about the place as the performance by Crews, who on receiving the singer's personal request for him to apper in the video, agreed and then insisted it was filmed in her hometown. Howard's family and friends appear in the video - which is dedicated to her father K.J. Howard, and both he and Brittney make cameo appearances. And this is in many ways a timeless, almost Capra-esque portrait of smalltown America, about a real community. Ultimately it tells us that, a place is more than what appears in the headlines. Just like everywhere else, it is about the people.

“I got an email from the Brittany Howard, asking me to be a part of a song she wrote that was all about her dad and how special he was to the family. And she poured her heart out in this letter. I couldn’t believe it,” Crews said in the press release. “Brittany was like, ‘we can shoot it in L.A.,’ and I said, ‘No, I’m coming to you, we’re going to Alabama. We’re going to where you grew up, to where your family is.”
