Charli XCX & Christine and the Queens 'Gone' by Colin Solal Cardo
Ned Botwood - 29th July 2019
Charli XCXÂ singer steps into the world of Christine and the Queens for this triumphant duet, directed by Colin Solal Cardo.
Fresh from an exhilarating video for Robyn, Cardo returns to an ongoing collaboration with Chris. Their work together, on Doesn't Matter, La Marcheuse and Five Dollars, is visceral and unique, and traced in intriguing detail in this article by Nel Dahl for Dazed.
The video for Gone follows a personal liberation: Charli and Chris unbind themselves from a web of rope and perform confrontationally in a storm of rain and fire. The video has set the internet alight with thinkpieces and interpretations. The performance was spontenous - not choreographed - and hinges on a furious chemistry between the French and British stars.
This, like all of Cardo's videos, has a luxurious finish. It's shot resplendently in 35mm by Crille Forsberg, and has been graded in tones of navy and tobacco by Luke Morrison at Electric Theatre Collective.
