Kawala 'Play It Right' by Do Not Entry

Rob Ulitski - 28th Aug 2019

We take a trip back to the 80s in Do Not Entry's cosmic video for Kawala.

A teenage girl with confidence issues finds a glowing green cassette tape in her room - and then unwittingly unleashes the band into her bedroom as she plays it.

Turns out to be a good move: they support her through a journey of studying, exercise and facing bullies, always appearing by her side until the end, where she has gained her own agency and self confidence and is ready to tackle the world head on.

Job done.

DO NOT ENTRY:

"Music can have a truly magical effect on you when you’ve got the blues. It can lift you off your feet, it can make you cry like a baby, or it can motivate you to do wonderful things.

"We felt Kawala’s track had just that effect on us - it really is especially uplifting. So we wanted to try and personify this feeling, by having the band magically summon into a dork's bedroom, and then help her to build up her self esteem and confidence - showing the power of the music.

"This immediately felt like a pretty cosmic concept to us, so it only seemed right to slap a cosmic '80s feel on the film. We went away and immersed ourselves in some old favourites like Repo Man, Weird Science, Teen Wolf, and built the world, the palettes, and the various scenarios from there."
