Melt Yourself Down 'Boot And Spleen' by Hugh Rochfort
Rob Ulitski - 9th Sept 2019
Hugh Rochfort's video for punk-jazz combo Melt Yourself Down is a frenzied and euphoric examination of society's outcasts and their refuges.
Though all vastly different, the characters share an internalised claustrophobia, which is brought to light as they're not able to satisfy their natural desires, and their need to belong. They are consciously or unconsciously trying to shield their own spleen from the societal 'Boot'.
Colourful and wacky, the video is relentlessly frenetic courtesy of the quickfire edit by Greg Hayes, allowing just enough time to catch your breath before it goes somewhere even wilder than before. The extensive use of closeups helps to portray the feeling of claustrophobia, the unusual camera angles adds to disorienting effect - pretty much perfect for the uncompromising Boot And Spleen.Â
