Mystery Jets 'Screwdriver' by Henry Dean

Mystery Jets 'Screwdriver' by Henry Dean

Rob Ulitski - 25th Oct 2019

Tension boils over in the Mystery Jets video for Screwdriver, directed by Henry Dean.

In a series of cinematic vignettes, we see different groups of characters explore the border between love and anger, all in their own unique ways. This fragile gap between the two emotional states is of particular focus, and is represented through unexpected and poignant moments on-screen.

A setup with four stereotypically masculine men is turned on its head, and it is through several instances of these subverted expectations that the magic of the concept starts to shine.

Beautifully shot with Cineovision Anamorphic lenses, DoP Ashley Barron heightens the emotionality of every setup with careful attention to composition and lighting, and the pacing and reveals of the big moments are expertly handled by editor Mike Radforth.

HENRY DEAN:

"The Screwdriver video is about showing the proximity of love and anger in our society. No matter how aggressive and broken down we feel within our own little factions, we can always overcome it through tenderness, together. In other words, tumult can always be overcome by the love within is all."
