Jape 'I Was Wrong' by Brendan Canty
Rob Ulitski - 12th Dec 2019
A fleeting moment in Dublin is captured in slow-mo in Brendan Canty's video for Jape's I Was Wrong.Â
The first in a series of eight videos being produced for Jape's new record, I Was Wrong focuses on a group running for their life from an unknown threat, before heading right into the danger around the corner. Brilliantly simple but intriguing, the slice of life plays on expectations and unwraps the narrative through carefully composed slow-motion shots.Â
BRENDAN CANTY:Â
"I wanted to be playful with the title line of the song and feature a character who's done something wrong and now appears to be facing the consequences of his actions. The pace of the track cried out for slow motion so I decided to shoot it all super slow.
"Jape's music always has a cheeky humour to it so I wanted there to be threads of comedy in there also - but comedy that is embedded in the real world. It was the greatest fun to shoot, the cast was amazing and Al Hooi the DoP captured everything so beautifully. It was such a joy to make and it still makes me smile every time I watch it.
"It is the first of a series of 8 videos made for his brilliant new record - each one by a separate director, and each one with the same brief: to capture a fleeting Dublin moment."
