Eden 'Love, Death, Distraction' by Zhang + Knight
Rob Ulitski - 13th Dec 2019
The loneliness of life on the road is explored in Zhang + Knight's latest labour of love for Eden.
Transporting a decaying plane across country on the back of a HGV, an ageing truck driver has more than enough time to meditate on his life and work. Location after location, the appeal of travelling has obviously faded as the driver looks for any distractions in the monotonous journey. The small things, such as new trails in the sky from a plane, or the animals running in front of the van on the road are given prime focus, the only novelty in the miles of countryside and terrain.Â
Finishing off the journey at a scrap yard, the use of shots from inside the plane represent the idea that the vehicle has seen its heyday, and like every journey, this one has come to an end. Shot in Kazakhstan for 5 days on 35mm, the visuals are breathtaking and beautifully composed, giving the concept a charming yet wistful vibe.
