Low Octane 'Shock The Monkey' by Jennifer Yarbrough & RJ Vinalon

Rob Ulitski - 20th Feb 2020

Jennifer Yarbrough and RJ Vinalon present a stop-motion labour of love for Low Octane's version of Shock The Monkey.

The video for a heavy metal cover of the Peter Gabriel classic mixes live action performance with tremendous animation care of Probot Video. Exploring the world of Mister Simian, an animal rights antihero, the visuals are full of sci-fi iconography and action scenes, frenetically cycling through a multitude of set pieces - all created with action figures.

Lo-fi yet extremely ambitious, Yarbrough and RJ Vinalon's video is reminiscent of stop-motion epics such Static X's Push It video (1999). The creative team had their work cut out for them, but the final project is a testament to their creativity and ingenuity.
