Black Square 'Coral Blues' by Luke Tierney
Rob Ulitski - 10th Mar 2020
A group of soldiers are trapped in a harrowing version of Groundhog Day in Luke Tierney's creative video for Black Square's Coral Blues.Â
The visual opens with several injured soldiers on their knees, wounded and exhausted. A well-dressed woman adorns one of the men with a necklace, but when she tries to do the same to the leader of the group, he lashes out in a violent rage. This scene repeats with different reactions, but one thing's for sure - it isn't going to stop anytime soon.Â
Balancing trippy steadicam shots and a clever use of VFX, Tierney creates an authentic and believable world which is as haunting as it is aesthetically beautiful. The church location adds an onimous and cinematic sensibility, the delapidated rooms and scattered papers mirroring the theme of time going by uncontrollably.Â
