Dua Lipa 'Break My Heart' by Henry Scholfield
Promonews - 8th Apr 2020
Henry Scholfield is back with Dua Lipa. Following on from his monumental UKMVA-winning videos for New Rules and IDGAF, Scholfield has created another visual feast for Break My Heart - taken from her just-released second album Future Nostalgia - utilising clever camera trickery, great choreography and perfectly stylised production design to create this epic emotional narrative.
We follow Dua on her journey as scenarios materialise and amplify the emotional state, illustrated here through fast-paced transitions and setups, mirroring the heartfelt lyrics.
The video which was shot in Bulgaria uses a colour palette of early Almodóvar mashed up with mid 90s styling via the iridescent surreal-scapes of Japanese love hotels. Production had their work cut out with VFX, choreography, wire work, stunts - and a tilting set. The sets were built across three stages, and beautifully realised by production designer Mark Connell.
Scholfield explains: “I wanted to create something that felt like that tumble dryer of emotions when falling for someone who’s
pulling away from you. Dua’s perfomance was brilliant (as always!) taking us on her journey from vulnerable to empowered, via her playful cheeky-charming self.”
And the video, single and the album release were all brought forward, despite the Coronavirus pandemic, on Dua Lipa's command. She states: “I hope it brings you some happiness, and I hope it makes you smile, and I hope it makes you dance."
