The Rolling Stones 'Living In A Ghost Town' by Joe Connor
Rob Ulitski - 27th Apr 2020
Joe Connor captures the eeriness of public spaces under lockdown, in the video for The Rolling Stones' Living In A Ghost Town.Â
For the iconic rock group's latest release, Connor briefed photographers around the world (and Margate) to capture the changing landscape of iconic streets and buildings, while he recorded a desolate, empty London himself.
Intercut with intimate studio footage, the lo-fi fisheye aesthetic used more or less throughout the piece is particularly fitting for the current situation, shot off-the-cuff whilst traversing various roads, underground stations and trains.
JOE CONNOR:
Strange times call for strange perspectives and the fisheye felt like 'anti-framing'.Â
"This was a global lockdown effort. We shot this video in LA, Toronto, London, Osaka, Cape Town, even Margate. I briefed some amazing photographers to capture their city using this unique viewpoint.
"I wanted to find a different way to depict what is happening around cities and neighbourhoods. Strange times call for strange perspectives and the fisheye felt like 'anti-framing'; a resonant way to depict these times. Shot and cut from my kitchen table for one of the best bands of all time. All social distancing was observed, safety was paramount."
