Olpekkalev 'Poluton Maa' ft. Paleface by Samuel Häkkinen & Henna Välkky

Rob Ulitski - 4th May 2020

Directors Samuel Häkkinen & Henna Välkky pay homage to the film Koyaanisqatsi, in the video for Finnish band Olpekkalev's Poluton Maa.

Featuring hectic cities, dark alleyways and vast deserts, the video was shot over two years across four continents. It was made as a constant side project during work trips and holidays to New York, The Sahara, Italy and Japan.

Otherworldy and surreal, the visual is a perfect accompaniment to the haunting track. While the footage of cities packed with people feels particularly resonant, even poignant, during the pandemic crisis.

SAMUEL HÄKKINEN & HENNA VÄLKKY:

“In many ways the video is a sequel to the earlier IKÄWÄ video, that we did for the same artist. The process for IKÄWÄ was that we went through a lot of material that we had shot during our travels and tried to find a kind of story in there.

"We wanted to get a similar feel to POLUTON MAA, but this time we knew in advance that we are shooting a music video. The final form didn’t come together until we had material from the course of a couple of years. It was like a puzzle where we filled in the gaps filming more material on work trips and holidays.”
