'Pressure: The Countless Faces Of Chaos' by Ernest Desumbila
Promonews - 10th June 2020
In Ernest Desumbila's deliriously imaginative cyberpunk epic, a disparate group of young individuals explore extraordinary scenarios, facing demons of time, beauty, technology, ancient myth - and the Mediterranean Sea itself.
Desumbila, the director behind ambitious productions combining live action and animation for LSD, Kids Of The Apocalypse, and the riously entertaining Waffle House by Snails & Botnek, has devised this blockbuster, soundtracked by a poem by Stefan Storm and the 'Concerto Pour Une Voix' by Saint-Preux, which gives a dysopian sci-fi twist on mythology.
The narrative may veer towards the opaque, with the mysterious poetic soundtrack voiced by Susie Cobbs, but the metaphorical nature of the piece is all-pervasive: this is a world of extraordinary technological innovation that is also abandoning personal freedom, promoting cruelty, and ultimately nearing destruction. It's a reimagining of the real crisis facing the world, an imaginative tour de force of dread.
