Zoee8 'Juice' by Christopher Ranson

Rob Ulitski - 15th July 2020

Christopher Ranson celebrates community in his monochromatic visual for Zoee8's Juice.

Cutting together unused footage and leftover shots from another shoot, the video has a documentary style vibe, utilising establishing shots and portraits of different residents to paint a picture of the neighbourhood and its interweaving stories.

DoP Stefan Yap employs a fly-on-the-wall approach, allowing the action to unfold in front of the camera whilst bringing his trademark technical mastery and beautiful composition to the table. The footage has been beautifully graded by Lewis Crossfield at Time Based Arts.

CHRISTOPHER RANSON:

I realised we had so much unused footage of Zoe and his neighbourhood, I could make a video from that.

"We actually shot part of the video way before lockdown whilst we were on another shoot in New Orleans. We met Zoe on this other shoot and I’ve stayed in touch with him ever since, messaging about his music and trying to work out how we could go back and shoot more stuff with him.

"It was last year that I realised we had so much unused footage of Zoe and his neighbourhood that we could probably make a music video for him from that, so I started cutting it around Christmas time and then finally finished it just as lockdown started.

"Big thanks to Zoe himself, his community, Chris Scheurich, Ally McNally, Stefan Yap, Nathan Tettey, Ben Mealing and Lewis Crossfield."
