Jack Curley 'I'm Here For You' by Joshua Thornton-Allan
Rob Ulitski - 9th Sept 2020
A woman thrashes out her painful memories in Joshua Thornton-Allan's video for singer-songwriter Jack Curley.
The visual for I'm Here For You depicts a heartbroken woman trapped in her head, screaming at nothingness and trying her best to move on with life. Intercut with Jack's performance, she backtracks over snapshots of love and loss.
But finally, she finds the power to take back control - with a magnificent moment of catharsis.
JOSHUA THORNTON-ALLAN:
The idea was to create a simple physical action that had a far deeper emotional context.
"As soon as I heard the song, I knew I wanted to craft a story that reflected Jack’s lyrics but also stood out as it’s own contained narrative. I wanted the track to be a catalyst for the protagonist, the power of the song inspiring her to overcome her personal demons and move forwards. From this, the idea was to create a simple physical action that had a far deeper emotional context, to explore an event as a microcosm of a much larger journey.
"I worked with the actress (Marta Lune) to develop a rich backstory for the character, meaning she had real emotional depth to pull from on the day. This gave nuances to her performance that allows for both exploration and personal interpretation of the character's struggle and eventual triumph.
"Ultimately, it created something which reflects the power of the track itself, but also has space to breathe as it’s own story."
