Bryson Tiller 'Right My Wrongs' by Rohan Blair-Mangat
Rob Ulitski - 3rd Nov 2020
Bryson Tiller tries to turn back the clock in Rohan Blair-Mangat's emotive video for Right My Wrongs.Â
The video was made to coincide with the re-release of Tiller's debut album, and depicts the artist enjoying success and apparent harmony with his partner - played by Jordan Coleman - but there is something else going on here.Â
Intermixing documentary-style footage and stills with polished narrative setups, the blurred boundaries between real life and fantasy bleed into the overall aesthetic, resulting in a piece that slowly reveals its purpose. Â
The use of subtitles to represent the characters' innermost thoughts - as opposed to their spoken words - creates an extra layer of depth to the story, that ultimately reveals itself as a story about the reality, and the downside, of escalating success - the hidden woes of fame.Â
