Armand Van Helden & Riva Starr ft Sharlene Hector 'Step It Up' by Sammy Rawal
Rob Ulitski - 25th Nov 2020
Sammy Rawal's feelgood video for Armand Van Helden & Riva Starr's Step It Up tells the tale of a roller skater who multiplies into hundreds of identical clones as she skates blissfully amidst aqua blue skies.
Opening with the character floating above the camera, weightlessly gliding through the air, the concept experiments with playful visual effects, resulting in a kaleidoscopic storm of chaos. As the ever-increasing clones of skater Olivia Brownell start to dance in surreal unison, DoP Michael Leblanc's perpetually moving camera adds to the effect.
The track’s vocalist Sharlene Hector also makes an appearance, singing along to her soaring vocals, in a video which combines live action and VFX in a way that pays homage to dance videos of the Nineties and Noughties, whilst looking forward with a fresh perspective.
