Fontaines D.C. 'A Hero's Death' (Live) by Samuel Taylor
David Knight - 12th Feb 2021
Filmed for an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in late January, Samuel Taylor captures this riveting performance by Fontaines D.C., performing the title track of the Grammy-nominated A Hero's Death in the Auld Shillelagh pub in Stoke Newington, London.
In Sam Taylor's words it's "one of the thinnest pubs in London town", which DoP Eira Wyn Jones has lit beautifully, colour-coding different parts of the room. Kudos to Steadicam op Jake Whitehouse too, for negotiating this tricky space - moving up and down the length of the pub through the band and Guinness-supping regulars - to capture the live version in one hypnotic take.
Unfortunately, it's the closest to the inside of a pub that you will get this weekend. Cheers anyway.
