Ashleigh Jadee directs a powerful promo for Sons Of Kemet's Pick Up Your Burning Cross.Â
In the video, actress Kelechi Okafor is shown feeling dejected from an overwhelming barrage of white beauty standards- whether it be in the limited choice of light makeup at a local shop counter, or in the fashion editorials that plaster every magazine in the local shops.Â
She eventually discovers pole fitness as a way of reconnecting with ancestral energies that run in the roots of the world around her, gaining confidence from a knowledge that is not seen nor heard, but felt and experienced.Â
Beautifully shot by DoP Eric Myers and conceptualised by Jadee herself, the visual is hopeful and memorable, and unwavering in its message.Â
