Hayden Thorpe 'Parallel Kingdom' by Tom Haines
Rob Ulitski - 11th Aug 2021
Tom Haines directs an illusory promo for Hayden Thorpe's Parallel Kingdom.Â
Filmed during the summer solstice in a neolithic stone circle, the action stands in for whatever pagan rites occurred there, be that contemporary, anachronistic or performative. The stones act as a zoetrope, splicing the screen to jump between characters, between time, creating a kaleidoscopic effect. Down is up. Round is round.
The surreal, dreamlike quality of the vignettes adds to the enigmatic soundscapes and vibe of the track, and encourages viewers to dig deep into the meaning of each image.
