Fiona Jane Burgess directs the latest video for The Last Dinner Party in a real departure from their canon up to this point: a poignant, character-driven short film with no appearance by the band.

The promo for The Scythe follows an elderly couple (played by Richard Durden and Eileen Nicholas) on a quiet journey through the English countryside, focussing on a series of scenes on the journey. Without a backstory or dramatic arc, it invites the viewer to fill in the narrative details themselves - and find beauty in the ordinary and unspoken.

“The Scythe is a song about love, and so this film is a testament to that," explains Fiona Jane Burgess. "The band came to me with an idea about seeing an older couple on a journey, and I thought that was refreshing since we live in such a youth-obsessed culture.

"I also love road movies, so it was fun to have the opportunity to make one! The actors were fantastic and brought so much energy to the screen despite two very long and demanding shoot days.

"The shoot itself was an adventure, driving from place to place discovering hidden gems with a brilliant crew and meeting locals along the way (some of whom are in the film!) I worked with cinematographer Mika Altskan and we shot on 35mm 4-perf which was a dream.

"So many people helped bring this film to life and I'm so grateful to The Last Dinner Party and their team for being such amazing collaborators.”
