David East reunites with Irene Skylakaki for a dancefloor-set video with an ingenious twist.
Following his expansive video for the Dead People, shot amid spectacular South African landscapes, the video for the thumping Hell is enclosed and immersive, Irene and her fellow clubbers captured under intense strobe lighting, distorted by in-camera effects and lenses, the viewer disorientated by Dave Warren's fluid edit.Â
Eventually we discover the club space is not what it seems, that it's actually set within the same desert landscape of the Dead People video.
"I really wanted this one to feel like being at the club," says East. "It has that big club anthem energy, but there is also a softer moment in it. That's why I added the wall break, to let it breathe for a second. The whole film is about that rush of euphoria and feeling completely lost in the moment."
