After a seven year hiatus, the Icelandic ambient/experimental duo Kiasmos (that's Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen) has returned with a hauntingly beautiful new music video for Flown directed by Greg Barnes. The stark black-and-white visuals follow a solitary elderly man living an isolated existence in a windswept coastal dwelling. Nearing the end of his life, the man (played by Robert Goodman) is obsessed with trying to become airborne - represented by motifs of birds and a strange symbol he constantly looks for.Beautifully shot by DoP Matthew Wilson, the cinematography casts the weathered protagonist in hazy chiaroscuro lighting, hinting at deeper spiritual truths lurking beneath his sole existence among the rugged terrain. Sweeping shots of the beach and roiling surf conjure both loneliness and possibilities of liberation.Above all, this is superbly well-crafted visual storytelling by Greg Barnes for Kiasmos's first music since 2017's Renaissance LP. The imagery forms a powerful and poetic visual accompaniment to Kiasmos' exploratory brand of cinematic, texture-rich ambient/experimental electronics.

Locky chronicles the course of a love affair with great delicacy in this visual for Irish producer Boku's instrumental track Lacuna. The video examines a relationship over period of time, exploring the highs and lows of their connection, using different media, and the way in which initial passion, and then love itself fades.As things fall apart, the director introduces a striking visual device to drive home the poignancy of the story - the image itself catches alight, burning slowly away, taking the parting couple with it. "We wanted to make a film that really showcased the realities and mundanities of a stagnant relationship, juxtaposed against the energy and romance of the ‘honeymoon period’," says Locky. "This film is them looking back on their relationship: the good and the bad... Either way, eventually, time takes its toll and the memories dissipate."

William Glass captures a hypnotic collage of rolling clouds, in his promo for Still Life's Crystals Forming. The long and short of this video is clouds - nothing more, nothing less - but don't be fooled into thinking this is a half-baked concept. Filmed over the UK’s first coronavirus lockdown, the visual is a reflection of time passing in social isolation, mesmerisingly edited to meditative effect, matching the lilting instrumental theme with each carefully considered cut. Dreamy and breezy, it's very different but fun - and rather soothing.
