Mónica G. Carter directs a blue-hued Nineties-influenced promo for up and coming R&B singer Essosa.Successfully channelling the classic Hype Williams style in his music video directing pomp, the video for Waste My Time lives in an anachronistic space, blending retrofuturism with thrilling dance sequences, and centred around Essosa's absorbing performance. And the director says it was her intention for the video to feel timeless."I took inspiration from late 90s / early 2000s R&B/pop videos and mixed in a modern-minimalistic-futuristic feel," says Carter. "I wanted to make the viewer feel like they were traveling in time but not knowing whether they were traveling backwards or forwards: nostalgia colliding with avant-guard."We didn’t shy away from simplicity, on the contrary we leaned into it, ensuring that each department collaborated together to create something that felt uniform and exciting: From the cinematography, to the art design (betting on the monochromatic blue colour pallet), to the amazing choreography/ performance. I wanted to give the audience space to meditate, to feel Essosa’s captivating music."

Daleya Marohn explores movement and dance through a spatial relationship of lines and colour, in the absorbing short film Tarpaulin Blue. Featuring music by Louis Carnell and cinematography by Julian Hohndorf, the video uses colour as its central focus, with plenty of shades of blue in everything from the location to textures of the clothing. "I was inspired by London's scaffolding, covered by blue tarpaulin as a way of evoking emotions of feeling blue," Marohn says. The concept is a unique way of visualising an emotional state, and as the video progresses, the amalgam of colour, music and movement embodies a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, elevated by dancer Freja Jenkin's intimate performance.

Bella Hadid guest stars in Claire Arnold's slick promo for Offset, featuring Moneybagg Yo. The artist's dynamic delivery is complemented by Hadid's cool, calm and collected presence, chilling in a blue-tinged studio whilst the performances play out in front of virtual backgrounds. The icy colour palette and minimalist aesthetic elevate the luxury vibes of the visual, as does healthy dose of Balenciaga styling.

Alfie Templeman is on the run from a gang of blue morph-suit hitmen, in Joel Barney's whimsical promo for Colour Me Blue.In a surreal game of cat and mouse, Alfie is chased through the sleepy streets of his hometown, Bedford, in a concept inspired by Edgar Wright and early Noughties music videos. The laidback style is a perfect match to Templeman's playful persona, and encapsulate the summer vibes of the track.

Léa Sen stays at home with her pet chameleon in Molly Burdett's soothing video for I Feel Like I'm Blue. In a series of beautifully composed scenes in a comfortable home, Sen is in a state of relaxed contemplation - accompanied by her chameleon named Blue. Within the setting Burdett explores a metaphor for changing identity and Sen engages in conversation with her future self.In Lea’s words: "Blue the chameleon is an extension of me. It was also a hint at the challenge of being an immigrant in London and sometimes having to (whether you’re conscious of it or not) change yourself to fit this foreign picture you’re now apart of."Sen's performance is heartfelt and understated, which matches the melancholic vibes of the track, and the desaturated colour palettes and lingering shots help elevate this mood.

Rock outfit Modern Error's frontman Zak Pinchin has directed an avant garde fantasy for the band's return to action with The Truest Blue.Backdropped by chromatic, patterned structures and shapes, the video is infused with a sense of abstract style, from the fetish-inspired styling to perpetually lilting vignetting on the image. DoP Matt Gentleman balances gritty textures with the gloss of mainstream promos, creating a visual that falls somewhere between a daydream and a nightmare - and with the concise art direction by Richard Stimpson it successfully pays homage to some classic rock videos."The Truest Blue is the first look in to the new world of Modern Error," says Pinchin. "I see this as a kind of editorial dystopia, pushing elements of obscurity, avant garde fashion and dark beauty, but still bright and clean."The intention of this video is to simply showcase and set up that band's new world and see a character birth into this world of the band's new concept album."

Dan Massie teams up with James Arthur for another live promo, this time for introspective hit Avalanche. Shot in a contemporary social space, the focus of the concept is purely on James' performance, which slowly unravels as the track builds to its emotional climax. Cold blue lighting and slow, contemplative shots elevate the reflective themes in the song, whilst the inclusion of the full band adds an extra energy and finesse to the piece.

Alex Southam directs an intense dance promo for Public Service Broadcasting's Blue Heaven. The video features multidisciplinary artist Celine Fortenbacher, who hides under the guise of darkness, blending into a cold, dank industrial space before bursting out of the shadows and into choreographed dance.Transforming into a confident, mesmerising performer in her imagination the video takes a turn for the fantastical, as the space is flooded with blue lights and strobes. This momentarily giving the character star quality under the watchful eye of a CCTV camera.Alex Southam's direction draws you into the world of the Fortenbacher character, her transformation into a vibrant alter-ego - inspired by legendary German movie star Marlene Dietrich - and the conversation that ensues between the different parts of the personality, assisted by a superbly kinetic edit by Rich Woolway.

The high-energy, high fashion promo snares along its two-minute runtime, and boasts a distinctive orange and blue colour palette, tied together with frenetic camerawork and a dynamic performance. Featuring Crowns & Owls as creative directors, the concept encapsulates the feverish vibes of the music to brilliant effect.

Zhang + Knight have delivered another awesomely surreal, beautifully shot and graded video, an intriguing visual for French electronic R&B artist Sônge's track, I Come From Pain.We follow the singer who embodies a strange, blue-haired alien goddess, worshipped by the population of a neon-tinged industrial city. The goddesses' long blue underarm hair acts as the centrepiece of her power. Monastic devotees in blue dress perform all manner of rituals at the temple - their most important refuge - leaving behind the pain and suffering mentioned throughout the in the song's lyrics.
