As we welcome in the new year, here's a personal perspective of the unprecedented one that has just passed into history, from poet Hussain Manawer, brought to the screen by Jake Polonsky BSC.A cinematographer who has worked on hit TV show Billions over the past few years, Polonsky returns to shortform - where he made his name as a DoP on music videos in the late Nineties and early Noughties- to direct this visualisation of Manawer's personal account of lockdown, and his strategem to deal with its effect on his mental health.As the poet reads in a recording studio, a sole dancer begins to perform in a huge, empty space - The Troxy in East London, looking glorious, and prepared for its next live show before an audience, whenever that may be. The dancer works his way through the room, and the neat rows of seats, to make for the stage...Shot by Haris Zambarloukos BSC, with Polonsky filming other London venues, all designed to serve a specific community - a primary school, a mosque, a synagogue, and various other important live music venues - 2020 Vision was shot on the Fujifilm GFX100 large format camera, and the film was made possible through finance by Fuji as well as support from a variety of bodies, from Time Based Arts and Panalux to the Music Venues Trust and Save Our Venues. It certainly serves to show how important those venues are to our collective wellbeing.

Daniel Broadley explores how we communicate under lockdown in the documentary-style visual for Lockdown (whichis in aid of the charity Refuge). Collaborators Richard Walters and Patrick J Pearson- collectively known as LYR- developed the track from a poem by Simon Armitage, with narration from actress Florence Pugh and Pete Wareham of Melt Yourself Down.The video features a cast of everyday characters, and celebrates our collective actions to help the country in its time of need. Families, couples and solo dwellers stand at their windows, holding sheets of paper with snippets of the poem. This mixed media aesthetic very much captures the zeitgeist of this period, which is already packed full of its own unique iconography and themes. A great, out-of-the-box concept for lockdown, this is a hugely successful video with an exciting mix of collaborators, which exists to help a very worthy cause.

Sing J Lee delivers a stylish, science fiction-influenced adaptation of Shakespeare, to mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death, in this collaboration with singer-songwriter, performance artist and model Viktoria Modesta.With washes of pink and blue neon, and a serious amount of jaw-dropping wardrobe this turns from adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream exploring the lust for self-edit and presentation (with Viktoria as Titania), into a full-up pop video and choreographed to perfection. The VFX here are a brilliant development on the aesthetic that Sing first started to play with in his video for Muse earlier this year - a refined and cool sci-fi look is rare alchemy but executed explosively here with an artist who previously starred in the groundbreaking video project Prototype, directed by Saam Farahmand, as the first amputee pop star.
