Tierra Whack is back. But in the first video from her new mixtape the relentlessly creative and playful hip hop star has torn up her own rulebook.The Philadelphia rapper usually couches her quirky lyrical preoccupations in appropriately comic and surreal ways in her videos - and always in vibrant colour. The promo for Wax Paper, directed by child., is just as creative, but for Tierra also completely new. Most strikingly, it’s black and white - with the emphasis on the black.Shot in nighttime in Philly’s north side neighbourhood, this is honouring both the the place and its residents but also the classic form of the hip hop video, set on a rapper’s home patch. Child brings the dreamlike quality that characterises much of their work, and a really heightened visual sensibility kicks in, so it becomes the most silvery monochromatic version possible of this kind of video. Black and white Tierra is not so immediately visible as full colour Tierra but in her way just as memorable.Beautifully made, with great portraiture, fantastic cinematography by Liam Reardon, it’s consummate work by child. and a brilliant (and unexpected) addition to the Tierra Whack canon.

The concept for the video for Disclosure's Arachnids is deceptively simple on paper - POV shots of dancers entranced by the music. But the magic of the visual is in the performances, which transition through waves of euphoria and excitement. With unwavering eye contact and captivating energy, the performance vignettes interweave with abstract, textural cutaways, all connected by the beat and the musical experience.The video immerses viewers in the track’s highs and lows, inviting them to savor the shared experience and reconnect with the raw energy of the rave scene. Another very conceptually strong, unmissable video from Elliot Elder and George Muncey, aka UNCANNY.

Spencer Young creates a rich display of vivid images to symbolise positive messages of joy, aspiration and strength in Obongjayar's Try. The director, who has recently signed to Hello Love, has created a series of portraits of the London-based Nigerian singer-songwriter for the first release from his upcoming debut album. Some of the most striking imagery shows Obongjayar and his brightly, regally dressed dancers standing still and strong - as if in defiance of Young's backdrop of evocative, billowing skies.In contrast to a sense of imposing majesty, drive and ambition that is evoked in those moving still life portraits is the innocence of a young boy who observes Obangjayar on his TV. The boy provides the emotional heart of the video, dancing alone in a moving representation of joy, and then transported into the regal zone.From a man waiting alone in the wings for a curtain call, to a young boy peeking out from behind the net curtains, the video touches on themes of isolation and perseverance as Obongjayar sings 'It's no guarantee our lives will change, but all we do is try'.
