Harry Tomlin puts a breezy twist on the story of Adam &amp; Eve in his latest for singer Kat Penkin, turning it into a female revenge fantasy. How do you like those apples? &nbsp;The video for Ugh begins in a crowded waiting room, where a young man&nbsp;ditches his girlfriend to chat up&nbsp;the&nbsp;receptionist - played by Kat. She offers him an apple - and with one bite he's transported to Eden-like countryside. Kat is about to teach him a lesson.What follows is an entertaining comedy, where Kat expresses her disgust by terrorising the chat-up guy in outlandish scenarios&nbsp;- usually involving apples - plus wonderfully stylised performance set-ups which accentuate Kat Penkin's cheeky and irreverent&nbsp;personality.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]“I wanted the opening scene to subvert the style of the piece," says Tomlin.&nbsp;"Cinematic, desaturated and slow, luring the viewer into a world that we would soon flip on its head. Then we gave ourselves the licence to go all out with the rest. Sonia Bernardo plays an unreliable self-help 'guru' in Harry Tomlin's absorbing musical drama&nbsp;for the&nbsp; British/Portuguese&nbsp;singer-songwriter's song&nbsp;What, If Not The Family?The video is set in a community centre self-help group, where Bernardo talks (and in fact sings)&nbsp;to the assembled, reading from a printed leaflet. She paces around the room, bewitching the group as they listen intently. The camera lingers on their faces - and then&nbsp;members of the group start dancing, demonstrating the psychic hold that Bernardo now has over them. &nbsp;With a gently surreal, slightly unsettling sensibility - the use of slightly-off eyelines and unusual composition leans into this mood - Harry Tomlin has&nbsp;created an enigmatic, palpable atmosphere to frame Bernardo's performance of the song.&nbsp;&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"Sonia and I discussed this piece being an exploration of ideology and a narrator that we can't fully trust," he explains."She also wanted to incorporate the Portuguese dance 'bachata' which really excited me, giving us a chance to explore this contrast between the serious, stiff reality and the fluid, surreal dance realm."[This allowed]&nbsp;us a window into these people's soul through the slow embrace of dance," Tomlin continues.&nbsp;"I wanted to use Sonia's audience as a mouthpiece for the lyrics, both literally and through their body language."

Harry Tomlin directs an energetic performance piece for frequent collaborators Dutch Criminal Record.&nbsp;The video for Gaslight takes place in a moonlit living room set, and makes use of some creative lighting techniques to build its palpable atmosphere.&nbsp;"We wanted to create a warm, inviting environment in the set to draw the audience in, but didn't want anything to seem fake," Tomlin explains of the video.&nbsp;"So we intentionally see off the edges of the set and lean into the stripped back nature of the video, allowing their performance and personalities to shine through."DoP Ed Swift uses lighting as a character is the video, creating striking imagery with the spotlighting and using cues to go from moody moonlighting to brighter stage lighting which mirrors the change in pace from verse to chorus. This is enhanced with Adam Mears's brilliant grade which elevates the lighting and gives the piece extra texture."We had so much footage of the band performing so Rebecca Quinn did an amazing job taming that beast and still managing to include so many little character moments. I love little details like their feet dancing to give a bit more texture to their performance."&nbsp;

Harry Tomlin directs a heartfelt promo for singer-songwriter Kat Penkin, telling the story of a teenage girl struggling with an eating disorder, how it affects her life, her wellbeing and her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anchored by a powerful performance from Birdie Wright, the video recounts the artist's experience as a 15-year-old girl struggling with body image issues, and follows her through different struggles and aspect of her youth.&nbsp;Employing naturalistic cinematography, the visual is broken up with narrative sections which drive home the theme of the track, showcasing the acting talent on-screen. With DoP Ben Smith's&nbsp;framing and utilisation of natural light&nbsp;Tomlin focusses on fragmented moments which help us connect with these characters. And with so much narrative to pack into this video, Rebecca Quinn creates a momentum which builds with the song and creates this rich, non-linear story of the characters' lives.&nbsp;[imgtoken data:1]"I worked very closely with Kat at every stage, taking care in making sure we did this story justice," explains the director. "I wanted us to understand these characters beyond the visuals - to project our own experiences onto them, how we might react differently or the same. It felt like a dynamic that was so universal and many of us react so differently in tough times like these."It was important that even though we were inspired by Kat's experience, we were not just retelling it. This is it's own story that hopefully many can get something from. I’m so grateful to Kat for trusting me with telling her story and lucky to have had such a wonderful team working on this."Kat Penkin adds:&nbsp;"My ED is such a big part of my life that I’ve kept hidden and never spoken about publicly. Maybe because it already took too much of my life and I didn’t want to give it anymore, or maybe because I felt ashamed I’m not sure. Dutch Criminal Record team up again with director Harry Tomlin, diving from bright colourful performance to a surreal world of kaleidoscopes and lens warps.Launching the first single from their upcoming album Novium, the band brings us this fun, vibrant catchy piece.Tomlin explains that he wanted the first half to be an ode to old television performances - MTV, Top of the Pops, Abba, Queen - which allowed them to have fun with framing and lean into the bands personality. This creates a stronger contrast with the second half of the video which he explains was mostly done in-camera by DoP Ed Swift, who was keen to try out these modified lenses and felt this was the perfect opportunity to do so.The momentum of the track and the endearing, goofy personality of the band is woven together with Rebecca Quinn's energic editing. But Tomlin explains that the visuals really came alive with Adam Mears' colour grade. "We wanted to go for a saturated, retro television look and Adam really delivered," he says. Harry Tomlin reunites with up and coming singer Evi, exploring nostalgia and our relationship with sentimental memories.In the video for When It's Over, we follow Evi as she glides through a forest at dusk, then a colorful alleyway before arriving at the riverside, as she performs the song.&nbsp;Shot on a rainy evening in Woolwich and Greenwich, the team makes the most of their surrounding, allowing the environment to become a character in its own right.&nbsp;Using natural light to craft the imagery&nbsp;DP Horia Cojan also&nbsp;had the idea of rigging a small light inside an umbrella when it started to rain.This is the second collaboration between Evi and Tomlin - actually the second of two music videos the team shot in one day. It's a simple yet well-executed visual, which matches the relaxed vibes of the track.&nbsp;

In this eerie, sensory video for Junodream, director Ned Botwood imagines ‘a day at the beach’ with the lights turned out.The video for The Beach is a languid montage of lunar beach scenes. Sand, swimmers, sunbathers, dogs and dust are all incongruously reframed at nighttime. Anonymous characters stare at the horizon, waiting for the wind to change.&nbsp;Making stark use of negative space and roaming spotlights, cameraman Joseph Dunn shoots the beach like a dreamy moonscape. This is emphasised by a silvery colour grade by Ruth Wardell at Time Based Arts. Echoes&nbsp;of Radiohead's Street Spirit, in fact, and the song happens to be a&nbsp;catchy indie rock anthem in the mould of that 90s classic.[imgtoken data:1][imgtoken data:2]“I try not to stay at the beach after the sun’s gone down - It’s too eerie for me," admits Botwood. "Once the tourists go home, it’s just flat land, heat, bugs, wind and darkness. There’s so little visual context, you might as well be on the moon. We wanted to imagine what a beach looks like to someone who can only remember little dark parts of it.“I really really have to thank Joseph Dunn and his camera team, Kevin Corry and The Assembly Rooms, and Ruth Wardell and Time Based Arts, who were all so generous lending their skill to such a tiny project!”
