Paolo Nutini 'Scream (Funk My Life Up)' by Nez
David Knight - 19th Mar 2014
It's shot in and around Hollywood, but Nez's video for Paolo Nutini's Scream (Funk My Life Up) is not about the glamour. It's about shining a light on its shabby underbelly. Paolo's fellow performers are real Hollywood characters, who haven't tasted much success in Tinseltown. But it isn't a grim portrayal of the has-beens and the never-weres either - it's a celebration.
Like Iron City, the other song just released from Paolo Nutini's new album Caustic Love, Scream (Funk My Life Up) highlights the singer's soulful growl and a sound that owe a big debt to Sixties R&B. Nez's video also has a nostalgic feel, but from a different era, back when Romanek and Corbijn were mixing pop and the street and making art. Â
