Kloe 'Liability' by Tash Tung
David Knight - 5th Sept 2016
Tash Tung's video for KLOE's UDSM presented a believable teenage nightmare, where heartbreak becomes the catalyst for the singer's excessive and increasingly wild behaviour. Now comes the sequel, and KLOE's full descent into a relentless, nihilistic cycle of drink, drugs and sex.
It's hard-hitting stuff for a pop video, where some conventional pop vid scenarios, usually played for pleasure, are turned dark, partly down to their relentless repetition. It's helped greatly by Rina Yang's impressive camerawork, delivering oppressive neon-drenched colours in every scene.Â
Kloe is a very credible focus in all this, lured to ever-harder partying. "Liability is the song that sums me up as a person best," she has said. "I wrote it last year at a time when I was rebounding quite frequently, desperately trying to run away from any emotion. I didn't want to feel anything... the video represents complete self-destruction. The UDSM and Liability videos are my proudest achievements to date."
