Tom Prior 'Looks Like Rain' by Peter Reeve
Luke Bather - 9th Nov 2016
Tom Prior gives us a throwback TV news report with a difference, courtesy of Peter Reeve. With a distinctly 80s archive VHS feel, this clip starts off innocently enough, with Prior as news anchorman, lipsyncing Looks Like Rain, from his debut album The Sunday Scene.
It's a not unfamiliar scenario – but it takes a more unpredictable turn when the weatherman decides to take centre stage, and make a play for Tom's co-anchor...
PETER REEVE:
"Initially we had two ideas that we pitched to Tom. One involved a choreographed dance routine in water, with Tom surrounded by a waterfall as he sang the song and two very wet dancers dancing to it. The second was the newsroom concept, which Tom instantly loved.
"The idea itself stems from the song title, which sounds like a weather report. This, in turn, led to the news programme idea, but we thought it would be fun to give it a retro 1980’s/Anchorman twist. I loved the concept of contrasting a comic video with an honest and heartfelt song, which Tom says he wrote 'about an asshole upsetting my little sister'.
"The whole video was produced in-house from start to finish, including designing and building the set (at Gun Hill Studios in Sussex) and create the 1980's style news graphics."
